Healthy Start Home Visitor Service
The Healthy Start Home Visitor Service is available for all pregnant women enrolled in the Maternal and Infant Program or who have recently given birth. A Healthy Start nurse will visit your home while you are pregnant to help assure you of a healthy pregnancy. Soon after your baby is born, your nurse will visit to make sure you are doing well, answer your questions, and help you with concerns. Some of the topics that you and your nurse consultant may discuss are:
- Your feelings and recovery after having your baby
- Baby care
- Breastfeeding
- Nutrition for you and your baby
- Finding a family doctor for you, your baby, and family
- Regular health checks for you and your baby
- Family planning
- Immunizations for your baby
- Understanding a baby’s behavior and development
- Change in the family with a baby
- Locating agencies or programs that can assist you and your family

Healthy Start Home Visitor Service FAQ's
When will my Healthy Start nurse come to visit my home after the baby?
Your Healthy Start nurse will call you to arrange a time that is convenient for you when she can come to visit.
I am tired after having a new baby, and I don’t feel like cleaning for the home visit. Will my nurse mind?
Your nurse is coming to visit to help you and not to judge your home. She understands that you probably will not feel like doing a lot after the baby is born.
How can I get the Healthy Start Nurse to come to my home?
Call your M&I Nurse or the Health Department after you have the baby, and the Healthy Start Nurse will call you to make an appointment for your visit.
